Well-traveled gelding takes claiming honors

Claimer of the Week at AGameofSkill.comTrelawny, a 6 year old gelding won the fifth race at Santa Anita Saturday afternoon and has been named the agameofskill.com Claimer of the Week. Trelawny stalked the leaders and was fanned wide into the stretch but got up to win by a length in the $25,000 claiming race. The race was contested at 6 ½ furlongs on Santa Anita’s famous downhill turf course. The Jeff Mullins trainee stopped the timer in 1:12.25 and returned $9.40 to his backers. Apprentice jockey Irving Orozco was aboard for Trelawny’s ninth career win. The son of Three Wonders is owned by John Stavropoulos and has raced at Sam Houston, Fairgrounds, Churchill, Del Mar and Santa Anita in the past two years, and has won at almost all of those on either turf or on artificial surfaces, sprinting around one turn or going a route around two turns. Trelawny now sports an impressive career record of 23 in the money finishes from 33 trips to the gate and has bankrolled more than $376,000.
