Tarpy Reaches his Goal – Wins Claimer of the Week

Tarpy’s Goal reached his goal of winning the second race at Churchill Downs last Tuesday by defeating a very tough field of old veterans in a $50,000 claiming event over one mile. Tarpy’s Goal was breathing down the leader’s neck all the way until the pair got to the quarter pole, and that’s when the Dale Romans trainee found another gear and left the field behind, winning by more than 7 lengths. Ridden by Corey Laneire, Tarpy’s Goal stopped the timer at 1:35.36 for the mile. The son of High Cotton returned $11.20 to his supporters. Owned by Mike Tarp, the 5 year old has now won 6 career races and finished in the money 10 times from 16 lifetime races. His career bankroll now stands at $203,000.
