Phor Phillipe won the second race at Tampa Bay Downs Saturday afternoon and has been named the agameofskill.com Claimer of the Week. The 6 year old stalked the early embattled leaders and moved up to grab the lead after being fanned wide at the top of the stretch. Confidently ridden by Anthony Stephen, and without being pushed, the Canadian bred whipped the field of $5,000 claimers and stopped the timer at 1:26.55 for the 7 furlong journey. The gelded son of Where’s the Ring is trained by Rory Barron. He is owned by his trainer and James Georgeades and paid his backers $9.20 to win. It was the fourth victory of the year for Phor Phillipe and his tenth in a career of 52 races. He has finished in the money an impressive 27 times and broke the $200,000 barrier in lifetime earnings with his Tampa victory.
