Russell Baze Retires. He is Horse Racing’s All-time Winningest Jockey

all time winning rider Russell Baze Northern California jockey Russell Baze shocked the horse racing world and abruptly retired at the conclusion of the Golden Gate card on Sunday, June 12, 2016.  Baze, who is originally from Vancouver, began his career in 1974, riding in Washington.  By the following the decade, he was a household name in Northern California, where he dominated the racing circuits there.

Baze is horse racing’s all-time winningest jockey.  He won 12,842 races from 53,598 mounts, and his runners earned a cumulative $199,334,219 in purses.
