Top Horsemen supporting wounded U.S. Soldier

It’s only a starter allowance with a $27,000 purse, but a race for 2-year-old fillies a week from Sunday, October 9, might as well be the Kentucky Derby for a young Marine named Josh Hotaling, who earlier this year returned from a tour of duty in Afghanistan severely wounded by a roadside bomb that destroyed both of his legs.

Thanks to some generous Thoroughbred owners who embraced Hotaling’s love of horse racing, the Marine is now part-owner of Under Protest, a daughter of Friends Lake, and if the filly wins, there is going to be one very happy and emotional group of people in the winner’s circle.
