Maximum Security is back in action this weekend as he’ll move forward in the Grade 1 Haskell at Monmouth Park.
The Jason Servis-trained 3-year-old colt was famously disqualified from first and placed 17th in the Kentucky Derby, the first horse ever disqualified from first due to an infraction during the race. Maximum Security was upset at 1-9 odds in his next start, the June 16th Pegasus at Monmouth. That race was little more than a prep for Maximum Security and Servis even admitted his colt wasn’t back to the form he had prior to the Kentucky Derby.
The winner of that race, King of a Day, is also entered in the Haskell. Todd Pletcher said the connections are “very high” on the Uncle Mo colt. He has won three of his past four starts with the only loss coming on a sloppy track in a Grade 2.
One to keep an eye on for a possible upsetter is Laughing Fox. He is a deep closer trained by Steve Asmussen. He won the Oaklawn Park Invitational two starts ago before flying home late in the Preakness to finish fifth, beaten less than four lengths.
