Off the Charts Trip Notes (March 25, 2013) spotlights horses throughout the country who encountered some type of significant or meaningful trouble in their most recent start or just gave an extremely impressive performance. Please note that horses spotlighted in Off the Charts Trip Notes are never an automatic bet back, but rather runners to give a serious look at given the trips and the trouble spotted by our expert handicappers at AGameofSkill.com. Horses below listed in track name order.
At Gulfstream Park
ONE TOUGH COWGIRL (Race 7 at GP, March 23, Mdclaiming $25k, 6f dirt). Making her first start for the Frank Calabrese barn, the Luis Ramirez trainee and second time starter was the deserving choice in this large field of maiden claimers. Unfortunately for her many supporters she stumbled very badly at the start, losing all chance. She was way back early, not where you want to be sprinting in Hallandale, FL. Passed many horses to be a very distant 5th. PP lines won’t look very good on this 3yo filly.
At Santa Anita
MORE CHOCOLATE (Race 7 at SA, March 16, Grade 1, 1 1/8 miles dirt). This talented daughter of Malibu Moon came into the feature race with an undefeated 1-for-1 record over conventional dirt. She may have kept that record in tact if not for a very unlucky trip behind a perfect trip winner in favorite Joyful Victory. It was also her first start in 55 days, which she may have needed. This was a solid 2nd place finish, well clear of the show horse, that was even better than it looks on paper.
At Turfway Park
SONIC DANCER (Race 7 at TP, March 23, Mdspwt, 6f). The 3yo son of Suave was making his first start for trainer Larry lay, who is 0 for 29 with layoff runners. He was up close early before dropping back. Swung extremely wide turning for home and made up some ground late in a sneaky good 4th place finish. Will benefit from this start and is bred to relish more ground.
