Mark My Style (#7 Belmont R8 on 6/25/15 – NYB n1x turf): This horse won an optional claimer carrying an $80,000 claiming tag on May 17th, so even though it was a large purse the horse kept its New York Bred N1x allowance condition. At 10/1 for todays race and cutting back to 7 furlongs, the horse made a very wide move in a “straight NYB N1x allowance” that would win 85% of the time at the level, but he ran into a 4/5 Bill Mott-trained horse that was just too tough and ran second. Probably a better distance for Mark My Style would be a mile and a 1/16th on the grass.
Tiz Time To Shine (#3 Belmont R7 on 6/20/15 – NYB n1x): Was coming off a very long vacation where he broke his maiden in a September 2014 Finger Lakes $125,000 stakes against fellow New York Breds. Off a 3/1 ML and 7/2 very early in the betting, the late money flowed in and he went off as the 2/1 choice. Castellano saved ground early inside of another, and he tried to get off the fence on the turn, but there was no room. Castellano then switched his mount back to the inside, but again the horse shied a bit from traffic and settled for third. Looks like a horse that needs 7 furlongs or longer and is eligible for NYB n1x conditions.
