“Off the Charts” Trip Notes – June 12, 2014

Arlington

DEPART DOVER (Race 6 @AP, June 8, 2014, mile turf, MSW) The fourth was caught a little wide in first turn and then fought her way to battle for the lead. Continued the battle into the stretch until the disqualified winner faced her in mid-stretch and came over on her, slammed her it to rail and forced her to take up and check sharply, which not only kept her from winning but cost her the place position.

Canterbury

SHEAPAROUX (Race 6@CBY, June 8, 2014, Mile 70 yards off turf, Claiming $20,000) The favorite raced well and into the stretch was sent wide with the disqualified winner while both were trying to run down the leaders. Just inside the furlong marker her foe struck her with the whip and came over onto her path, causing her to check sharply. She did rally again and got up for fourth less than two lengths from the winner. She was moved up to third when the winner was taken down by the stewards.

PARX

CATCH MY DRIFT (Race 4 @PRX, June 8, 2014, Mile 70 yards, MSW) The favorite, a debut runner, broke from the far outside after being reluctant to participate. Was not away well and was allowed to take to the back of the pack. Moved over toward the rail when in the first turn and stayed along the rail gradually reaching contention midway in the turn. Moved up to challenge for the lead at about the 3/16 pole and never showed signs of fear slipping through on the inside despite being shoved into tight quarters along the rail. An impressive two turn debut.

Santa Anita

LUCA (Race 7 @SA, June 8, 2014, 7 furlongs, Claiming $25,000) Longshot hopped at the start and began last, was moved up into contention and was part of a pace battle while staying on the rail. Just before the stretch the rest field came over and he was forced to check and hesitate, dropping behind a wall of front runners. He continue to run and stayed to the inside, and although out of reach from the front, fought on gamely to take third only a length back of his nearest foe.

Woodbine

SEFFEARA (Race 2 @WO, June 8, 2014, 4 ½ furlongs, MSW) A well bet two year old colt broke the track record in his debut race and did it with clear authority. A good looking two year old field was totally embarrassed by his performance. One to watch.
