Horses below listed in track name order.
At Aqueduct
READYSETKETCH (Race 7 at AQU, Feb. 28, cl $14,000, 6 furlongs). This double digit longshot suffered a brutal trip en route to a sneaky good finish. He was blocked and steadied multiple times from the far turn into deep stretch. Was also stuck on the inside but never gave up and finished willingly. With a clear path, the James Jerkens trainee may have pulled off the shocker over the odds-on favorite.
At Golden Gate
ZEEWAT (Race 8 at GG, Feb. 18, El Camino Real Derby, 1 1/8 miles tapeta). One of the top betting choices in this field and rightly so, Zeewat got completely eliminated when steadied very hard at the 1/8th pole. It certainly appeared that he had a lot of run in him, and there is no doubt that he wouldn’t have been worse than 2nd…if not won the race. The son of Harlan’s Holiday has won on both dirt and all weather for trainer Jerry Hollendorfer and can rebound off this very unlucky trip, a rare instance for jockey Russell Baze.
At Turf Paradise
RACING FOR GOLD (Race 7 at TUP, Feb. 16, Sun City H., 1m turf). This filly went ridiculously wide on the turn for home under R. Hamel. The jock let her lose critical momentum by swinging her out of the top of the lane, resulting in her going 7-8 wide over the tight turns of the Turf Paradise grass course. She continued on willingly and finished sneaky well in this 1 mile turf stakes.
