Next Year’s National Horseplayers Championship (NHC) Is On This Date

Las Vegas sportsbook contestLexington, KY and Las Vegas, NV (April 6, 2022) – The National Thoroughbred Racing Association (NTRA) in conjunction with Caesars Entertainment has set the date for the 2023 National Horseplayers Championship (NHC). The NHC will be held at the newly rebranded Horseshoe Las Vegas, the former Bally’s, on March 10-12, 2023.

“We’re excited to bring everyone back together in Las Vegas for all the excitement of the NHC,” said Tom Rooney, NTRA President & CEO. “The Horseshoe Las Vegas feels like it was made for this event, and we’re looking forward to the best NHC we’ve ever had.”

The NHC, presented by Caesars Entertainment, Racetrack Television Network, and Horseshoe Las Vegas, is the richest, most important and most prestigious tournament for horseplayers in the world. This event is the culmination of a yearlong series of sanctioned local tournaments conducted by racetracks, casino race books, off-track betting facilities and horse racing and handicapping websites, each of which sends its top qualifiers to the national finals in Las Vegas. Each year, the NHC winner joins other human and equine champions as an honoree at the Eclipse Awards.

Established in 1999, the first NHC offered total purse money of $200,000. The 2022 NHC offered total prizes and awards of more than $3.5 million. David Harrison, a real estate appraiser from Webster, NY, topped a field of 643 entries to win the $725,000 first-place prize and earn an Eclipse Award as Horseplayer of the Year.
