The son of a Horse of the Year swept past embattled leaders at the top of the long Belmont stretch on Belmont Stakes day to capture Claimer of the Week honors. Mineswept won the third race at Belmont Park on Saturday in a $14,000 optional state bred race going a mile. Mineswept, who dropped down from an open $35,000 race, stopped the timer at 1:36.59 to win by a couple of lengths for his sixth career win and paid $6.70 to his supporters. Ridden by Jose Ortiz, the 5 year old has now recorded 17 in the money finishes from 27 lifetime starts with earnings slightly greater than $300,000. Mineswept is owned by La Marca Stable and trained by Rudy Rodriguez.
