Phat Day captured the seventh race on opening day from Fairgrounds in New Orleans and has been named the agameofskill.com Claimer of the Week. The son of Five Star Day battled for the lead all the way around the track and showed the most determination late in the race to win the 5 ½ furlong event by a length. Ridden by Rosie Napravnik, Phat Day covered the distance over a good track in 1:04.83 and returned $6.80 to his supporters after the optional claiming/starter allowance race was made official. The 6 year old is trained by Thomas Amoss and the victory is the ninth of his career. Owned by Denzik, Raclic, Dugan and Dugan, Phat Day has now finished in the money 15 times in 30 races and has a lifetime bankroll of $139,000.
