Hawthorne Race Course Going HD in 2019

Fans at Hawthorne racecourse. Fans at Hawthorne racecourseSTICKNEY, IL – With the first gap in the racing calendar in over two years, the television crew at Hawthorne Race Course will remain busy as Hawthorne will be converting to High Definition for its racing coverage.

Hawthorne Race Course will be partnering with International Sound Corporation to make this conversion. The conversion to Hi-Def will begin immediately following the end of the fall/winter thoroughbred meet on January 12. The 8-10 week changeover will include the conversion of all of the current television cameras at Hawthorne. Additionally, cameras will be added in the paddock, providing additional footage for the racing fan.

Coinciding with the camera upgrades will be the build out of an entirely new television control room, the installation of a closed circuit race viewing system for the stewards, and a new graphics package for the racing fans.

“This move to high definition is something we have been looking into for quite some time,” stated Hawthorne President and General Manager Tim Carey. “The toughest part has been finding the time to make the conversion. Since the process takes two months, we haven’t been allowed the chance to make these upgrades as we have raced year-round between one breed or another since early in 2017.”

“Now we have the time to make these upgrades for our racing fans and horsemen,” Carey continued. “We truly believe that things are headed in the right direction for racing in the state of Illinois. We continue to work with the horsemen’s groups and racetracks in the state, along with the legislature to expand gaming at the racetracks as well. I believe 2019 will be a big year for Hawthorne and the move to HD for our racing signal is a great start.”
