Hammer wins up North

Northern Hammer captured the fourth race at Woodbine last Monday and has been named the agameofskill.com Claimer of the Week. The gelding stalked the early place down on the rail and ran much better than the rest once the field hit the furlong marker on the Toronto turf course. The 6 year old won the 6 ½ furlong test for $40,000 claimers on a firm course. Northern Hammer stopped the timer in 1:15.63 and paid a whopping $27.90 to his supporters. It was the sixth career victory for the son of Medaglia d’ Oro, who was ridden by apprentice Nick Webb. Owned by High Five Racing and trained by Shane Learn, Northern Hammer has finished in the money 13 times from 26 starts and has accumulated $181,000 in lifetime earnings.
