Claimer of the Week: Young miss repeats in Chicago

Miss Darla dueled and set hot early fractions before taking command at the top of the stretch and pulling away to win the seventh race at Hawthorne last Wednesday afternoon. It was the second consecutive win and the seventh in the career for the daughter of Montbrook. Trained by Percy Scherbenske, the 4 year old covered the six panels on a fast track in 1:11.37 and returned $7.40 to her supporters. The Florida bred won the $25,000 optional claiming event by 4 lengths with jockey Tim Thornton in the irons. Owned by Pete Mattson, the filly has now earned $83,000 in her career and finished in the money (top 3 finishers) in 16 of 30 races.
