Claimer of the Week: Old Pro goes Coast to Coast

Layers made every pole a winning one in the third race at PARX last Saturday afternoon and defeated a field of $5,000 claimers by more than a half-dozen lengths for his eighth career victory. The son of Menifee stopped the clock in 1:17.39 for the 6 ½ furlong contest over a fast track. Ridden by apprentice Michael Ritvo, the 8 year old paid $5.60 to win. Trained by Hugh McMahon the Pennsylvania bred has now earned over $380,000 in his career. Owned by Joseph Besecker, Layers has finished in the money (top 3 finishers) 27 times from 45 lifetime races.
