Claimer of the Week: Golden Gate runner toots his horn

Trumpet Player Jay closed from the back of the pack, took the lead passed the furlong marker and held on to win by a head in the eighth race at Golden Gate last Wednesday afternoon. The 9 year old gelding ran the 5 ½ furlongs on Golden Gate’s artificial surface in 1:04.28 and returned $8.40 to his supporters. Russell Baze rode the winner in a race carded for $4,000 claimers. The win gave the son of champion Orientate his ninth career victory. He is trained by Jerry Hollendorfer. The Kentucky bred has finished in the money (top 3 finishers) 26 times from 59 starts. Owned by Janet Hollendorfer, Trumpet Player Jay has now earned over $231,000 in his career.
