Horses to Watch

Belmont Park

10/1/16

Race #3 – #4 – Filet of Sole – 7f dirt

Javier Castellano’s mount veered in at the start and he corrected his mount immediately. Advanced nicely splitting runners and floated three-wide on the far turn. He gave a good account of himself this race and should benefit next out.

Race #6 – #4 – Flintshire – 1 1/2 miles turf

The yielding turf and all day rain may not have been to his liking as he settled behind the speed and moved three wide to finish up second. The fractions were slow and this race may have been used as a good teaching moment. According to Chad Brown all systems are go for the Breeders’ Cup and I think we’ll see his best on display.

Race #9 – #7 – Stallwalkin’ Dude – 6f dirt

Irad Ortiz had the Jacobson trainee in mid-pack stalking mode and angled out going five wide at the 1/4 pole.  He took over the lead very briefly and was forced to settle for second money getting bested in the final 1/8th.

Belmont 10/2/16

Race #1 – #2 – Yorkiepoo Princess – 1 mile dirt

Irad Ortiz sent his filly wire-to-wire and won easily for a race that was originally scheduled for the turf. With a quick turn of foot like she possessed, this gal can turn out the lights pretty quick.

Race #4 – #1 – Delta Prince – 6 1/2f dirt

First time starter for James Jerkins and was bumped around quite a bit leaving the starting gate. She never looked settled during the race and should benefit greatly from this initial trip over the track.

Race #5 – #2 – Coasted / #6 – New Money Honey – 1 1/16 turf

Jose Lezcano did everything on cue and was forced to wait for a gap at the top of the lane. She was on-hold for what seemed like an eternity and was overtaken by New Money Honey who got the jump and had good momentum. Coasted finished an easy third this day and both runners need to kept on your list from this race.
