Claimer of the Week – Last 2 weeks!

Slick Idea, masterfully handled by rider Kennel Pellot, refused to surrender the lead despite constant pressure in the sixth race at PARX last Saturday afternoon. Reaching the wire first in the $12,500 claiming event, Slick Idea completed the 6 ½ furlongs in 118.10, and paid a whopping $32.20 to his supporters. The 5 year old son of Essence of Dubai is owned by Susan LeBarron and trained by Keith LeBarron.  Saturday’s outing was the first race after a layoff for the dark bay horse. With a dozen lifetime victories, Slick Idea has earned over $265,000 in 41 career starts and finished in the money 26 times.

Kabob, a winner of the third race on Keeneland’s opening day has been named the Claimer of the Week for the opening week of October. The 7 year old Kabob was positioned toward the back of the pack and began to make his move into the turn. The son of Labeeb (GB) was in striking position at the quarter pole and, after encountering trouble in mid-stretch, moved on with proceedings to take the $10,000 claiming event by a length. Ridden by veteran Scott Spieth, Kabob covered the 9 furlongs on polytrack in 153.13. The bay horse paid $6.20 to win and recorded his sixth lifetime victory. Owned by Lynda Lail and trained by William Helmbrecht, Kabob has finished in the money 22 times from 37 career starts with earnings now exceeding $175,000.
